We see a selection of London Midland services operated with class 150s which will soon be run by the new class 172s. The highlight of the month is A1 steam loco Tornado working the royal train from York to Leeds, shot at Burton Salmon, just south of Church Fenton after it's official naming at York by HRH Prince Charles. On the 25th Feb i went on a circular loco (and HST) bash... which almost went to perfection... but didn't, yet was still a great day. The 08:12 new street to Bristol HST was cancelled, so we waited for the 09:12 HST, changed at Temple meads for a silverlink liveried 150 to Weston super mare as it was to late to get to Taunton. So from Weston we did the First Great Western loco hauled class 67 working to Cardiff, had a liquid lunch (after my lucky triple train shot), Then the Hightlight... The Arriva trains loco hauled service to Holyhead. We rode the class 57 to Shrewsbury but missed the Wrexham & Shropshire class 67 southbound by about 6 seconds!!! so i slept on the 158 back to Birmingham. The first two pics are taken from Weaste road, a bridge over the railway near Eccles. The next three pics are at Sheffield. The weather was crap but it was about time i shot a Deltic on the mainline!!! Then i had a trip on the Scarborough spa express to the said seaside resort. 70013 Oliver Cromwell provided the power, the glory and the disapointment! the stock derailed on points while shunting at Scarborough, thus cancelling the return run to york. Never mind, a fun day out regardless!!! Before work on Saturday the 23rd, 33025 and 33207 were shot near Abbotswood junction working 1Z33 from Crewe to Weymouth. Then a brief visit to the Severn valley railway to shoot 37906. Tuesday the 26th saw the sun disappear after illuminating many units at Kings Sutton, before 57303 lead 1Z96 past on the diverted northbound mail run. The next day after work had a short visit back to Wadborough to shoot 6233 Duchess of Sutherland on a cathederals express. i elected to do a 'wrong side of sun' shot as there was none of the shining stuff to be seen. And did a pan aswell! The month ended with a visit to the sea wall at Dawlish and my first trip on the Paignton and Dartmouth railway in order to see the Dartmouth royal regatta. Another great day, although the sun made about as much of an effort to appear as Berbatov in a Spurs shirt!!! The trip involved a few nights in Chur to sample on street running and a lot of great sights on the Rhatische Bahn to Tirano and Arosa. The journey started with my first trip out of London st Pancras on a eurostar to Paris. I really wanted to do a loco hauled service to Mulhouse but yet again i had to miss out, this time the reason being to get to Chur that night meant eating up the miles quickly on a TGV. The photography is just a small selection of shots from an overnight escapade at Preston, i really can't be bothered and i have no more to say, so go to Matt Wilsons website and see how the shots i didn't edit would have been, while i bask in the shadow of deflected glory that only Frank Lampards Chelsea teammates will understand. ps, When shopping online with the biggest supermarket chain in uk, check all the details, read all the small print and double check that you want them to make substitutions of what you've ordered (or not). Otherwise they may swop a flavour of ice cream you want for one you don't want/like... and more importantly, when i ordered 8 multipacks of cat food on a buy one get one free offer they didn't send 4 of one of the flavours ordered. They didn't swop them did they! The only conclusion can be... They will swop to give you something you don't want (if it's not a necessity)... but not swop something if it is a necessity or will save you money!!! It's fair to say that you can reject the swops at the point of delivery... but what's the point in that, they didn't substitute my deodorant... they didn't give me any! so now i have ice cream that i don't like and body odour that Georgia doesn't like! ]]> Mon Oct 1 2007 east lancs railway, 05th july 2007 http://lee-rutter.fotopic.net/c1320124.html the one day i had availiable to visit the east lancs railway. thanks to matt parker for telling me about the event, which is a week long diesel gala. i had a great day, and got my first ever photographs of a hymek. the locos in this set of pictures are; diesel hyraulics; warship d832 'onslaught; d1015 western champian and hymek d7076. then the sulzers; d5310, 26024, 45135 and 47402 'gateshead'. most shots were taken at irwell vale station in the countryside, but shots were also taken at both ends of ramsbottom and rawtenstall stations. it must be said that if it was sunny that would have ruined many photos, the poor weather allowed shots to be taken from both sides of the line. i'd like to thank the staff and volunteers for making the event possible and look forward to my next visit. the 'new measurement train' heads south towards acton bridge. a pair of freightliner 86s. going back north to liverpool. 86101 heads north away from acton bridge on 5z86... ...a test run from crewe to preston and back with the 'new' blue and grey mk3s. a class 150 in disguise... ...a slightly closer crop reveals it to be 950001. a first group liveried class 175, graffitied by arriva trains wales. the 86 returns and we can see that 47839 was in support... ...but by this time of the evening the light was no longer on the nose... ...so i brightened it in photoshop, (sorry if you don't like it). another photoshoped pic, i like this effect and have done it with many pictures. pendolinos passing crewe. a rake of class 325s speed north through crewe... ...how long until they get some first group branding if gbrf keep using them??? eps (european passenger services) class 37s 603 and 604 come round the sharp bend at bordesley... ...working 1z37 ...from southampton to york. the camp hill line climbs away to the right, as the 37s power load 12 and dead loco... ...up their own gradient at 20mph... ...past a smiling me!! class 47805 was on the rear of the train. just a hint of the heavy rain that drenched us as matt prepares to fire the (water) canon. at hasland, just south of chesterfield. with the famous spire in the background... ...37603 leads 604 on 1z39... ...17:04 york to southampton... ...running almost 1 hour late after hitting debris on the line. a turbo heads towards didcot... ...on a paddington to oxford service. an mtu truck sounding power car leads its train westbound... ...on the slow lines. 37406 and 422 pass lower basildon... ...near pangbourne, working 6m33 avonmouth to wembley... ...a close up of the locos. a freightliner service on the slow lines about to be shown what the fast lines are for!! the evening sun glints off the side of an old liveried mk3. 37406 and 37410 climb the lickey bank... ... with 1z37 cardiff to pwhelli. an hour or so later they are seen here just south of shifnal. 47791, the last seagul left at saltley... ...sits beside the former hub of so many memories. 150237 approaches small heath with the 10:47 off snow hill to shirley. an unbranded central trains 150022 on a service to kidderminster.

class 40 145 arrives at derby. nice headcode on display!! some other type 4s at gloucester. here we are, at llandrindod wells. the train drew forward into the siding to stay clear of the locals for a couple of hours. an operational stop at wolverhampton meant some more phots for everyone. then a divertion via bescot towards the new street stop. displaying the headcode of the outbound journey... ...it get corrected before departure. back at derby and the headboards are off as the loco is about to run round. having run round, the loco is about to start it's last leg of a long day home to crewe. the mml hst on the 08:03 new street to edinburgh, at north staffs jn. the 1st tpe 158 on a central trains service... ...class 158 810 waits to depart nottingham on its way to liverpool. could they not decide which company should provide the mk3s... ...an mml power car drags on of its gner brothers to brush, as 5z95 13:05 from neville hill. class 60 083 heads north towards peak forest on 6m87. my 1st good shot of 67029... ...and my second. this was 0z65 toton to toton via scunthorpe. wow!! class 37 087 on 6z37 doncaster to bescot... ...passing south through langley mill... ...in style!!! (but not sun) ews, scotrail liveried class 90 019 on arrival at new street... ...with the 20:24 from manchester piccadilly... ...brings a little variety to town.

'kinlet hall at conwy castle' the last working of 87 012 in the uk!! shot just north of rugeley trent valley it's 5z48 polmadie to wembley, with a hint of sunshine. 150 125 leaves rugeley behind nearing its destination of stafford. 156 404 arrives at rugeley trent valley on its way to stafford. 47 813 and 43 175 pass barnt green. 66 153 in the sun at water orton. 66 407 belonging to drs on hire to freightliner. the drivers stop to chat. i guess this was a business conference about the trespassers in the left of the picture. 67 001 near walsall on its way from birch coppice to bescot. triple headed class 31's on a loaded coal train coming towards the end of the sutton park line near walsall. the most legendary working of 2006!! class 150 002, known as the middle cab of 150 011 sees daylight for a week in july, this is meant to be a three car unit and was only possible due to its recent refurbisment. 56 303 light engine at walsall. 323 214 leaves walsall on its way to birmingham new street. 37 401 at walsall on its way back to bescot.

a short convoy at croome perry. going to the south devon railway for the weekend. the flowers get a breath of fresh air from 47818. climbing the lickey bank on their way back to butterly after their weekend fling in devon. one of central trains finest..so much better than the 170s but so neglected.. the class 50's power out of rainbow hill tunnel. in desguise 50's 031 and 049 leave worcester behind on their long journey to scotland. the normal traction at rainbow hill. 21st century loco on victorian infrastructure at rainbow hill tunnel, worcester. 66001 on it's way to round oak. a nottingham bound class 170 at bishton flyover. what's missing here?? a london bound hst at bishton flyover. bouncier than the hovercraft in my other collection!! a 153 goes towards newport. the light blue livery fades into the distance... a hst on it's way to london. a silly pan, the nose is sharp the rest isnot. a class 27 at the dean forest railway. a class 60 heads south along the severn estuary. an ex midland mainline class 170 heads south between gloucester and newport. another 60 goes south along the severn estuary. a london bound hst arrives at taunton. a class 180 adelante leaves taunton on it's london paddington to exeter 'local'. horrible sounding 43004 leaves taunton on it's way west. the livery that wasn't to be. it's a freightliner.. i can tell these things. it's amazing what digital photography can do, you would think that to get this shot i was hanging my head out of a hst.... a class 59 about to leave southall yard. a class 313 at kennsington olympia on it's way to clapham jn. 1z14 at kensington olympia. 47145 leads 47355. 47355 at kenny 'o'. 47355 now becomes the leader as 1z14 turns back at kenny 'o'. just a couple of mk3's behind the loco and we could have motor rail back. is it so hard? 321 410 looks at home on the southern end of the west coast main line. 377 203 goes back south towards its 3rd rail home. class 92 number 042 heads to the north west along the west coast main line. 4O90 doncaster-grain passes south kenton. one of these has cramped seats and small windows, the other is london underground stock!! 377210 takes some ac current out of the west coast main line at south kenton.
